Creating Magical Experiences
If you’re bringing your little one to Milpitas Children’s Dentistry for the first time, you may have some questions about what you can expect during their visit. Our team is here for you and will be with you every step of the way. From the moment you walk through our doors you’ll be greeted by a member of our friendly staff. We’ll check you in and take down any necessary information. Feel free to let your child play on one of our iPads and help yourself to a refreshment from our beverage station while you wait.
At Milpitas Children’s Dentistry, we focus on preventive care at your first visit. This familiarizes your child with the process of going to the dentist in a non-threatening, educational way. One of our hygienists will clean your child’s teeth and speak to your child in an age-appropriate, engaging manner. (Valium) It is our goal to get your child excited about taking ownership over their dental health and at-home oral care.
After the cleaning, Dr. Richard will come in to perform the oral exam. He will discuss any findings with you and your child and answer any questions you may have. If there are any potential problems he will discuss treatment options with you, and you will be given space and time to decide how you would like to proceed. As always, we strive to make your child’s dental experience as straightforward and fun as possible. If at any time, you have questions about your child’s first dental visit, don’t hesitate to reach out!
How to Prepare Them for the Dentist
What to Know for a Successful Visit
Talk About Their Visit
It’s a good idea to let your child know what is going to happen at their visit. Talking about our team as new friends that they are going to meet and briefly explaining that their mouth is getting a checkup will help normalize the process. Don’t feel that you need to go into great detail about the cleaning or checkup. Our team will go over everything with your child in age-appropriate language to make sure they feel comfortable and excited to get started.
Stay Calm
Perhaps the best thing you can do to prepare your child for their visit is to stay calm. If you are nervous or anxious, they will notice and it will affect their mood, too. Simply speak about going to the dentist as if it were as normal as going to the grocery store or the library. Remember, their first visit will be focused on becoming familiarized with our office. Stay calm and rest assured that your little one is in good hands with Dr. Richard and our skilled team.
